Dr. Pesta Talks Common Core in Corona
In his classic, A Brave New World, Aldous Huxley foretells a society in which the common people receive just enough education to serve the political elites. While Common Core does not produce such a society, it is definitely a step in that direction. At a recent meeting in Corona on Common Core, Dr. Duke Pesta, professor of English at University of Wisconsin, described the evilness of Common Core. Duringthe two and half hour presentation, Dr. Pesta debunked the myth that those who oppose Common Core are nothing but close-minded rightwing extremists. By using the words of liberals and the proponents of Common Core, Dr. Pesta illustrated that the new standards are:
Crony Capitalism: Designed to profit the companies that create the tests, publish the textbooks, and provide the technology required by Common Core.
Educational Socialism: No child, regardless of natural ability, should receive an education beyond that of any other child of the same grade.
Social Engineering: Sex oriented lessons in math and English mean that parents cannot opt-out
of the sexualization of their children.
Weaken Child/Parent Relationship: Lesson plans are designed so that the parents are incapable
of helping their children with homework. This will give the government a near monopoly of children's education.
Drones: Produces a class of people who receive just enough education to serve the political class/elites whose children will attend Common Core exempt schools.
Dumbing Down: Continues the decline of America's educational system by accelerating the dumbing down of future generations.
What Common Core is not:
College Preparation: Common Core DOES NOT prepare students for college, especially STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) focused schools.
Life Preparation: Common Core DOES NOT teach life skills that students will need to be independent adults.
Critical Thinking: Common Core DOES NOT develop critical thinking skills.
Local Control: Teachers WILL NOT have more control in what is taught in the classrooms. In fact, there is an effort to eliminate the title of "teacher" and replace it with "facilitator."
These are just some of the issues with Common Core that Dr. Pesta brought to our attention. While we, as freedom loving patriots, do have much to take on, Common Core and the basic deterioration of education in America needs to be stopped. No matter what victories we when today, it will not matter if we lose the generation of tomorrow!
A point to remember: It was the school system that the leftist said was broken that produced the Americans who were able, with less technology than is in your cell phone, to put a man on the moon.
Dr. Duke Pesta from the Univ. of Wisconsin - Oshkosh is a very dynamic speaker on the dangers of Common Core. He is one of the top 5 speakers on the subject. This is part 1 of 7 of a 90 minute talk that was given at The Florida Tea Party Network Roadmap conference on Sept. 13, 2014 in Clermont Florida. The event was managed by the Tavares, Florida based North Lake Tea Party.
